We Were Right (well, probably)!

Elise started school on Monday. She likes it! Her aide seems good. She has 12 years experience doing this sort of thing. Handling Elise is no mystery to her. Elise is attempting to follow along with the class, but her communication skills, or lack thereof, get in the way. She's actively engaging in parallel play. Most of all, she seems to enjoy going to school. I've seen a change in her attitude at home. She's now playing with her brothers in the evening (when they initiate and sustain it) and going to the potty on her own. She's also smiling more and obviously proud of herself. She knows she's different, but she's loving being a part of something so normal. We knew this. I've come to doubt that this would be the right solution for her so many times because we've really received so little support from everyone about our desire to place her in a typical classroom. It now seems that our instincts were right. This is the best thing for her. It may be a fight to keep her there, but I think the way it makes her feel is worth any battle.
